This popular Wednesday evening series returns in 2011 and for the first time without Pete Kullich at the helm, although Pete will be planning one of the events.
This series was conceived as a training series, but has reached considerable support in its own right. To this end, a post event debrief is held at a local hostelry for the comparison of performances and for the refreshing of the body.
However, it still retains the objective of training at its root, hence the introduction two years ago of the Yellow course for novice and improving orienteers.
The original two courses, Short and Long, can be classified as rougly equivalent to BOF Short or Light Green and Green respectively.
Yellow Course will be planned according to BOF guidelines. 1.5 - 2.0 km length with controls on or next to paths on large, distinct features. Some Coaching will also be available for newcomers and those who intend to do the Yellow course. If you would like some coaching please contact the organiser who will arrange for one of our qualified coaches to meet you at the beginning of an event.
A league table is maintained for the more competitive of you, and prizes are awarded on the evening of the last event.
The cost of entry has had to rise this year, but is still excellent value for money:
- Senior (21 and over) £2.
- Junior (under 21) £1.
- Family £5.
Non-members will be charged £1 for hire of a dibber if they haven't got their own, members will be loaned a dibber for free. (For the full Poacher season, the cost of dibber hire is more than membership!)
